Uff-Da
I am running the Fargo Half Marathon this weekend.

Yes, I said "running" - and not "racing."

I just...am not feeling it.

I'm tired. I'm worn out. I'm grumpy. I feel slow.

I have a motivation deficiency.

I don't WANT it.

I like to reminisce fondly about my training last fall - when with every workout I could feel that I was getting faster. I wanted to PR the crap out of my fall marathon, and I was willing to work for it. Visions of a 30-minute PR danced in my head every night...and drove me to work harder every day. And it paid off. I beat my marathon time by almost exactly 30 minutes.

But now? I don't have that goal. My focus for the spring season is the half ironman. And Grandma's marathon. But mainly the half ironman. Or, wait. Maybe it's the marathon?

See? No focus.

It all comes back to the same old song and dance. I'm having a lot of trouble combining the marathon and half-ironman training schedules. I feel like EVERY DAY is a SERIOUS workout. There is no time for half-assery.

Every week I do Hill/speed workouts, kettlebells, masters swimming, speed workouts at the track, more masters swimming, long runs, long rides...And shit, where are the middle distance bike rides??? You mean I need to work out MORE?

I've been noticing that come Wednesday and Thursday, I am spent. I can tell that it's the fifth and sixth day in a row of working hard. I feel tired. Worn out. Grumpy. Slow.

But I already mentioned that in this post. Because it's Thursday. and that means that I'm tired, worn out, grumpy, and slow.

So what is the moral of this story? Oh, yes. Fargo Half Marathon.

I think the most reasonable goal for Fargo is simply this:

Don't Set A Personal Worst.

I wish I was joking...Ha ha...A 2:12 half marathon. THAT should be easy to beat.

But...it might not be. Last year I ran Fargo in 2:10 and I felt like I was in better shape than I am this year. It is Very Possible that I will PW this race.

GAH.

This better be one hell of a medal.

I'll be in Fargo Saturday cheering my sister on (she's running the full). I'll give an extra cheer for you and hope for no PW. Good luck!

Oh no! You have so much going on that it sounds like you are getting burnt out! It is really hard to combine a focus on both marathon and half iron training. It kind of has to be one or the other because both involve so much work and intensity. And you probably know that not every workout can be intense as your body needs some recovery (not just rest days, but easy workout days).

Um...so be careful. Go out and run that half marathon and just have fun. Good luck!

Dang, girl. That is seriously a hell of a lot of working out! I don't know how you do it! I think you totally deserve to take it nice and easty at Fargo. We're all rootin' for ya!

PW...that made me laugh. :)

You'll be just fine...but remember that there is no shame in taking a day to do absolutely nothing next week. Sometimes, the rest is what does our bodies (and minds!) the most good!
