Marathon training officially started today.
Time: 8am
Temperature: -2 degrees
Distance: 8 miles
Temperature: -2 degrees
Did I also mention that it was -2 degrees???
But in reality, it didn't feel that cold. Everyone layered up and JD brought us handwarmers. By the time we finished, it was 13 degrees and I was running without gloves.
It felt so, so, so good to be running with the girls again. These women are my support system. They are my best friends. They are my rock when things get tough. To have this amazing group together again... How is it even possible to have a bad run??
Throughout this week, there was a small voice in the back of my head, wondering if I could run eight miles. Funny how I was running marathons a few months ago, and now I'm struggle with the idea of an 8-miler.
But I haven't run anything over six miles since NOVEMBER. Maybe I did have more of an off season than I am giving myself credit for.
In any case, we ran 8 miles today. Slow and comfortable...a true LSD. Every step was fantastic...it was one of those runs that felt so good that I got home...and wanted to head out and run again.
(Fun facts: The last two miles were the fastest (10:42 and 10:33), and we had negative splits)
Distance: 8 miles
Average Pace: 11:15
Average HR: 166

Congrats! I know what you mean... and I had an even bigger off season than you. It's weird that I can't imagine doing 6 miles today when this past fall, I was running a half marathon every other weekend. I'll get there again!
And that's awesome that you have a running group of friends - that should make training so much easier!
There's nothing like friends to help motivate you. Way to go LMM (you figure out what that stands for!)I'm here to cheer you on. I'm your biggest fan.
Wait, let me get this straight . . . you knocked out a long run when it was -2 degrees outside?! Badassss! I wouldn't be leaving my apartment in that weather, let alone running 8 miles! Way to go--glad to see marathon training is starting off on a good note!! :)
Glad you had a great run. An off season is sometimes just what we need to get back full swing. Your group sounds like a lot of fun.
Ummm...wow, you sure picked a great day to start training. -2 degrees? I wouldn't run if it was +2 degrees, and I'm actually in the middle of marathon training. LOL! You inspire me woman! Great job!
as i was waiting for the comment box to pull up (something along the lines of being c-to-the-razy for running in that weather), i glanced to your sidebar and saw the twitter about milk duds.
genius.
that is all.
GAH -2?!?!? BRRRRR!
YAY for marathon training!!!!
Thats awesome- I live in NJ (you know, where everyone runs to the supermarker because of a few flurries!) and I wont run outside if its under 30 degrees (unless its a race day), so I give you credit!
Hope you dont mind, I added you to my blog roll. I really enjoy your posts.
I seriosuly cannot imagine running in -2 degrees!! You are hardcore! Nice job on the 8 miles and yay, for marathon training :)
