Triathlon Training
I did a little triathlon training last night.

I went for a 6 mile run/swim. AT THE SAME TIME.

OR I went for a run in the rain. Practically the same thing.

It was a stormy day and I was still being dogged by my damn cold. I thought that maybe the weather was a sign that I should take just one more day off.

And then I saw that a running friend posted an update on Facebook - commenting that he ran 10 miles in the pouring rain. Dammit. If HE ran 10 miles in the rain, then I could certainly do 6...and the rain had practically stopped anyway.

So I laced up the shoes and hit the trail.

And it felt SO GOOD to be out running. The damp air felt soothing on my skin and lungs and face. My legs felt good. I felt like I was running tall (Does anyone else get that feeling when you're running? Like you're about 6 inches taller than you actually are? I have a hunch that it's because I'm running with proper posture, which I rarely do. But anyway. I feel like a faster runner when I'm running tall).

Which was a nice change, because my Tuesday run sucked. I planned to do a hill workout with the Roseville girls but after the 3 mile warm-up, I threw in the towel. I coughed up my left lung at mile two, where it was promptly ran over by a Mack truck before I could return it to its proper location in my chest...and then I accidentally swallowed a vice grip and it somehow got a hold of my remaining lung and was squeezing the life out of me. I. Couldn't. Breathe. So I did the smart thing...and stopped running. Even though it hurt my soul to stop.

But yesterday's run? It was the kind of run that kind of gives your body a jolt...clearing my lungs and making me feel good all over.

And I was still in a happy mood when it started to torrentially downpour at mile 4. My visor kept the rain out of my face. My shoes were soaked and it felt like I was running on sponges. My shorts stuck to my legs like flies on fly paper. But it all felt so damn good.

Because when you're running and it's raining, you don't think about your crappy job or your dirty dishes or to-do list. You just think about running. And that was just the kind of run that I needed.

girlfriend. i ran in the rain a few days ago, in italy! and today it was so effing humid i might as well have been running in the rain for how sweaty i was. 10.6 miles today (which admittedly should have been 12; my last big LSD before grandma's half) but life happens. too humid and no sleep last night :( miss you and the RV girls too! thanks for the post comment and keep up with your training. you ROCK.

Nice job in the rain!

You are running the full marathon at Grandmas, right? When are you hoping to finish? I think Jumper is going to meet me at the finish, and we're going to watch a bunch of "locals" finish! 12 days!! 12 DAYS!!!

AAAhhh...you described my sentiments so admirably after 5 mile early morning race in the rain last week...notice I said after, because it didn't feel so good during...when I thought it'd be more fun to be a duck for a day!
