I miss Colorado.
Usually when I return home after a week away, I'm relieved. There's no place like home. Home sweet home. Home is where the heart is.
This time? Not so much.
I walked in the front door and was overwhelmed with sadness. I don't want to be in Minnesota. I don't want to be in the city of frozen tundra. I don't want to go back to the reality of jobs and bills and responsibility.
But I did want to get back to running - my cure-all for all kinds of sadness.
So on Sunday, I went to church like the good Catholic that I am (I hope Jesus took note), ate a massive rice krispie bar (which isn't at all relevant to this story, but damn it tasted good), and headed out for a run. I didn't get on the trail until 7pm, so I was planning on doing a quick 3. But 3 quickly turned into 6. I didn't want to stop. It felt so good to be in my happy place where I could rehash the glorious week in my mind. I do love running.
Mentally, I felt pretty good after the run, but the longing for the mountains is creeping back. I plan on giving it the ol' 1-2 punch with a long run tonight.
Was I this sad to return home last year?? Probably not. I'm guessing that last year I was mourning the loss of my marathon season. I'm hoping that my marathon season will be the bright spot that keeps me going...
