Well, all doubt has been erased from my mind on whether or not I can run the TC 10 next month (Not that I was actually doubting myself. In fact, I was probably overly confident. 10 miles?!? Pfffttt. I could run 10 miles in my sleep. Ok, that's a lie, but whatever. Overly confident. You get the point).
Because I ran 10.5 miles last night.
Yeah, that's more than 10 miles.
E and headed out for our long run, and she decided that she was going to rock the long run Jeff Galloway style (running with walk breaks incorporated, for you non-Galloway folk). I didn't want to walk...so I decided that I would speed up while she was walking, and then turn around and run back to her. We'd meet up and continue at our LSD pace. Which explains why I ran 10.5 instead of 10. Nothing like a little interval training to mix up the long run a bit.
It was exciting because it was the farthest that E had ever ran. I remember being so excited after every long run I did training for my first half marathon...I'd call my parents, so excited to share the news that I just ran 7...9...10 miles! My Longest Run Ever! It was nice to live vicariously through her, because I won't be feeling the "Longest Run Ever" high until I start marathon training in February.
After the run, E and I did some half-assed stretching. Every inch of me was in distress. My knees were tired. My legs were tired. My back was tired. I was ready to hop in a warm bath and call it a night. And so I did. I took a relaxing bubble bath and fell asleep with an ice pack on my "good" knee. Heaven.
My splits are a little messed up because I hit the lap button every time I sped up when E walked, and again when I went back to LSD pace, so I won't post the mess that is the splits. But my overall pace was 11:40. I am secretly hoping to run 10-minute-miles for the actual race. I have another 10-miler in two weeks, so I might have to run that one alone so I can see what I'm really made of. I ran 6.75 miles at a 10:20 pace when I ran alone...can I pick it up a notch and go an additional 3.25??
Three words to describe this run: humid, inspiring, chub-rub (I forgot to Body Glide). If I had a fourth word, it would be thirsty. I wore the hydration belt (all three bottles) and refilled one bottle toward the end. I should have refilled two. I was THIRSTY. It was "only" 75 degrees, but the humidity got me good.
And also - did I mention that I signed up for a half marathon? October 27. The Monster Half Marathon. Should I wear a costume?
