Home Remedy - Salt Scrub
I found the perfect way to make a simple yet effective salt scrub for use in the shower.

Step 1: Run 12 miles on a gorgeous day
Step 2: Sweat profusely during your run
Step 3: Let the wind (or your speediness) dry the salty sweat to your skin
Step 4: Hop in the shower. Rub your salty body. Let the exfoliation begin!

Yeah, I had one hell of a salt scrub after today's 12-miler. It was a beautiful day - 70 degrees, sunny, cool breeze. E and I headed out for our last "really" long run before the TC10. The plan: The three lake run - Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, and then Lake Harriet. E was going to run 10, I was going to run 12.

We ran 4 miles together (One mile of Calhoun and all of the Isles) and I stopped to use the restroom and she continued on - she was going to keep walking. But I wasn't sure if she was just going to walk around the area or continue on the 10-mile path. I came out of the restroom and I didn't see her anywhere. So I hopped back on the trail, assuming that she must have gone on ahead.

Well, after running for a mile and never catching a glimpse of her bright red running shorts, I figured that she must be behind me (I assumed that she must have walked in a circle around the rest area). So I turned around and backtracked. And never ran into her. So I continued on, bracing myself to run the remaining 6 miles alone.

But I figured that I'd run into E at the 9 mile mark, as she would be heading back to Lake Calhoun from Harriet. But our paths never crossed at the 9 mile mark.

Weird.

I ran the last four miles...wondering why we never saw each other. Horrible thoughts raced through my head. What if she had fallen and was waiting for me to catch up so I could call for help (mind you, these are busy running paths. We weren't running in a deserted area)?

But I carried on. And never ran into her.

Two hours and 8 minutes later, it was over. I had run 12 miles. I felt victorious. I did it!!

I got home and as I was walking in the door, my cell rang. It was E. She was fine. I was fine. Turns out, she was worried about me...so she turned at about the same time that I turned around to look for her. So I had been following her by a half a mile...and when we both turned around, she was following me. Which is why we never met. We're both safe. We both got our long runs in. It was a great run, even if I didn't get to run with E.

Mile 1: 10:46
Mile 2: 10:47
Mile 3: 10:59
Mile 4: 10:53
Mile 5: 10:47
Mile 6: 10:45
Mile 7: 10:40
Mile 8: 10:35
Mile 9: 11:00
Mile 10: 10:55
Mile 11: 10:30
Mile 12: 9:53

I always seen to find energy to run the last few miles a little faster. Does my kick come from digging deep or sandbagging? Or maybe it's seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The faster I run, the sooner I'll be done...

Nutritionathon Update:
Thing are going really well.
FRUIT: The fruit consumption is out of control. Three apples a day keeps the doctor away...right?
VEGGIES: It's been a challenge, but I've been squeezing in the veggies, too.
SNACKS: I ate my body weight in popcorn over the past few days. Popcorn is a carbohydrate. I need carbs for these long runs...right?!?
DINNER: I'm holding my own...
SLEEP: I didn't get enough on Friday night because of overnight issues at work, but I did manage to make it to bed before 1am. Yay!
